Wavescapes

One chilly fall day in 2016, Scott schlepped his new Nikon dslr and tripod down to the beach, about three blocks from where he lives. He’d shot “oceanscapes”—slices of both water and sky—for years with film and a view camera or Hasselblad. But this was something different…and a new project was born. Rule No. 1: No sky, just waves and sand. Rule No. 2: No travel in search of surfers’ dream waves, just stay home and “see what you see.” He could now use very long zoom lenses and, because of the “feedback” from the camera’s LCD screen, he was able to experiment with a wide range of framing and shutter speeds. He found those colors and shapes fascinating…and he still does.
